We are loved

SONG of SONGS 8:6 Set me as a seal upon your heart, As a seal upon your arm; For love is as strong as death, jealousy as cruel as the grave; Its flames are flames of fire, A most vehement flame.

These are the words of a bride, beseeching her groom (beloved) to keep her always in his mind. That was and still is the purpose of having the name or picture of a loved one engraved on a ring, jewel or even a pendant, and wearing it near the heart, to testify of great esteem, and a continued affection.

Here this request is made out of fervent love, which is strong and irresistible as death, especially when heightened by jealousy, or a fear of losing the beloved object. As such, NOTHING is so strong as the love of Christ for his people. It overcomes all hinderances, and brings them safe home to heaven through floods of temptation raging within, and distress and persecution raging without. See also Romans 8:35-39
